Elucidating Synergistic Effects of Different Metal Ratios in Bimetallic Fe/Co-N-C Catalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Lowering or eliminating the noble-metal content in oxygen reduction fuel cell catalysts could propel large-scale introduction of commercial systems. Several free are already under investigation with metal-nitrogen-carbon (Me-N-C) system being one most promising. In this study, a systematic approach to investigate influence metal ratios bimetallic Me-N-C cells reaction (ORR) has been taken. Different varying Fe and Co have synthesized characterized both physically electrochemically terms activity, selectivity stability addition an accelerated stress test (AST). The show different electrochemical properties depending on ratio such as high mass activity increasing ratio. Properties do not change linearly ratio, Fe/Co 5:3 showing higher simultaneous stability. Selectivity indicators plateau for 50% less, same values monometallic catalyst. These findings indicate deeper relationship between metals physical catalysts.
